In honor of School Lunch Week, we are highlighting this great resource from pa.gov that helps match families to programs and food pantries to help fight hunger!
Unity Day will launch a year of celebrating kindness!
Next week on Wednesday, October 19 we will celebrate Unity Day with our annual orange dress down day. To show they are united together as supportive community members, students may dress down if they are wearing something orange! On this special day, students will reflect on what they can do to make ICS a kind, caring, and safe place for everyone this school year.
Unity Day is a national celebration of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion–key skills that prevent bullying and create a safe community. This year we will extend the theme all year long, returning to it daily in our classrooms, during Human Rights week in December, on Global Citizenship Day in May, and more! We will highlight our activities and how they relate to the Unity theme in the Weekly News and on social media throughout the year.
I would like to thank all of our picture day volunteers! We got off to a shaky start but thanks to our awesome 4th grade teachers–and of course Tr. Shavon–everything fell into place and all the kids got their photos taken.
The Fall FriendRaiser Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, October 29th, we will have games, crafts, food and lots of fun! This is a super fun day to volunteer. We will need face painters, nail polishers, cupcake decorators and much, much more. Check out the volunteer link below to see where your skill set fits best
And last but not least, Pretzel Friday is on a semi-permanent “Throw Back”, so enjoy those classic Philly-style pretzels, still only .50…yum!
Many ways to support ICS – choose your favorite(s)!
World Holidays calendar ad or shout-out – Every year ICS publishes a beautiful calendar full of student artwork. It makes a great holiday gift! Now is your chance to publish your own business ad or commemorative message in the calendar. Order form is here, and all ad/tribute orders must be received by Friday, October 14.
Order your World Holidays calendar – “Do something today that your future self will thank you for.” You can now pre-order the 2017 ICS World Calendar that benefits the 7th grade Take Flight program. For only $10 each, you can get a head start on the coming year and order calendars for the whole family. The order form is here! Calendars will arrive in early November. “No Time Like The Present!”
Also, get ready to send in those Box Tops by October 21 to help your child’s class win a Munchkin donut hole party. Box Top funds will support the 7th grade signature trip to Heifer International Village this spring.
Violins at ICS – Tr. Craig’s Gofundme for the violins is a smash! We have raised $1385 so far and have only $615 to go. We are so thankful at this amazing generosity, support, and embracing of the arts by our ICS community. Support here now!
Clothes Swap, October 22 – On Saturday, October 22 from 10am-1pm you can bring your gently used women’s and children’s clothing and books to ICS and for a suggested donation of $20 take home as much “new to you stuff” as you can carry or fit in your car. All funds raised will benefit the ICS Musical Theater program. All remaining items at the end of the day will be sent to Circle Thrift. This event is open to the public–please invite your friends and neighbors!
Give Kids Sight Day – There will be a free eye care for children day on October 29 at Jefferson Alumni Hall. Complete details, flyers in many languages, and even an option to sign up for a reminder can all be found here!
