Weekly News, 2/18

Hello families,

Remember that this Monday, 2/20 there is no school in observance of Presidents’ Day.

CEO Tom sent the 2017-18 School Calendar out in his board meeting update last week. It’s also available to print/download anytime on at the bottom of our Calendar page, and all official dates have been added to the ICS Family Google Calendar.

The annual cheesecake sale to support the 5th grade camping trip has begun! Look for the flyer and order form in your child’s homework folder with complete details. All orders are due by March 10, and cheesecake delivery will be on Friday, March 24 (report card conference day). Cheesecakes are a great addition to any special family event!

Right now at the School Store you can purchase Lion King, Jr. tickets for evening performances and place the last order of the school year for Griffin Gear! Head on over to the shop today so you don’t miss out!

The (early) Spring Clothes Swap is next Saturday, Feb. 25! Bring your gently used clothes and books to school and go home with new-to-you styles and titles. 10am-1pm in the ICS cafeteria. $20 suggested donation will benefit Take Flight.

Make a note and save the new date: The PTA’s Bowl & Brew has been rescheduled to March 18 from 2-4:30pm!

The PTA is gearing up for the Silent Auction on May 13!

If you have something you’d like to donate to be auctioned off, you can use their handy online form to submit your info.

You can also download a paper donation form to print and share with your neighborhood businesses.

Have questions? Want to get involved in a planning committee? The PTA welcomes you! Email the auction planners.

The Summer Camp 2017 list is ready! All links have been updated and checked for 2017, except in cases where 2017 info is not out yet for that particular camp. If you have a camp you love and would personally recommend to ICS families, and you don’t see it on the list, send it my way!

One camp I want to highlight that I just added this year are Summer Equity Institutes for students in grades 6-10 at TPS. There is a two-week Equity Institute and a two-week Sustainability Institute.

Coach Veronica thanks everyone who sent in blankets and supplies for the SPCA. The Junior Coaches collected over 8 boxes full of blankets, towels, and toys for the the animals at the shelter!

Keep on donating those RecycleBank points to our Green Schools project! We’re 88% of the way to our goal thanks to 141 donors.

It is awesome that 141 donors have contributed! We have something around 750 total households at ICS, however. So I know a lot more of you out there must have RecycleBank points waiting to be sent our way. If you’re not a member yet, it’s worth it to take the time to register, get your sticker, and start earning recycling points–then you will always have points to donate to a Green School project in Philly and help make our city greener, even when ICS doesn’t have a project in the running.

Cianni and her fellow Take Flight travelers depart next month for a week of service and global exchange.

We’re still fundraising — Can you help us reach our goal? Gracias!
