2017-2019 Parent Representative to the ICS Board

Dear ICS Parents,

As we come into the final stretch of the school year, it’s time for me to leave my position as one of two parent-elected board representatives and welcome a new representative.

It has been an honor to be able to represent parents and families on the board of directors for this great school. I have learned a lot about how our school is run and how great our teachers, administrators and board members are. I am pleased to report that this board of trustees will welcome your ideas and insight as a parent at the school.

It continues to be important to have representation from families in the Enhanced program, especially at the middle school level. All parents are welcome to apply.

My term will end in June, at which point a new Parent Representative will be sworn in. There are two representatives, and terms are staggered so Rosie McNamara-Jones will be there to show you the ropes.

A Parent Representative’s term is two years, as opposed to the three-year terms other board members serve. A parent representative’s role, however, is no different from any other board member. The Board of Trustees (BOT) is the governing body of the school. Directors have the opportunity to get involved in “big picture” issues such as long-term strategic planning around growth and program development, HR policies, fundraising/development efforts, and school finances. All directors are charged with making sure ICS remains a strong and high-quality school for children of Philadelphia.

This is the job description outlining the role and responsibilities of the Parent Representative.

If you have any questions about this commitment, please contact Rashidah Andrews of the Governance Committee. I hope you will consider applying.

Sincerely,
Ashley Tobin
