Well folks, we’re here! It’s the end of the 2016-2017 school year. Congratulations to everyone (kids & families alike) on all the hard work, encouragement, cooperation, patience, and persistence that no doubt went into everything your students achieved this year! We couldn’t accomplish what we do as a school community without the constant support of ICS families. We wish everyone safe summers filled with lots of reading adventures!
You’ll receive your child’s report card and next year’s supply list in a mailing shortly after the school year ends. A summer mailing with complete back to school information will go home in early August. (And don’t worry–I’ll be sending you email reminders periodically, of course.)
There is a special board meeting tomorrow, June 6 at 12:00pm.
The regular June board meeting is Wednesday, June 14 at 6:00pm.
This Friday, June 9 is the last day of school.
- Friday is a FREE dress down day.
- It is a half-day 12:00 noon dismissal:
- 11:40 – Buses start being called
- 11:45 – Kindergarten arrives to sidewalk
- 11:55 – 1st-5th grades arrive to sidewalk
- 12:00 – 6th-7th grades dismissed
- 12:10 – Dismissal ends

Are you moving? Leaving ICS? Do you need health forms? Do you have a 5th grader who will need red polo shirts with logos? We’ve got your resources here!
Most important reminders:
- All rising kindergarten, 3rd grade & 7th grade students need to submit updated dental forms by the first day of school.
- All rising 6th grade students must submit an updated physical assessment/immunization form by the first day of school.
You can find the forms at the resource link above! It’s also fine to submit your doctor’s own report.
(Note: The state will have an extremely strict deadline next year for required health assessments and immunizations. Students will be denied entry to school if their health file is missing required information.)
Please continue to alert me by email if your child or children are NOT returning to ICS next year. Knowing which students are transferring or moving away helps us immensely!

We have no way of knowing who exactly has already completed it, so we do have to keep reminding everyone until we reach our goal!
Friends can help friends get it done: If you have already taken your survey, text an ICS friend right now and ask them if they completed theirs yet!

Mi Casita Preschool plans to add afterschool pickup at ICS on Tuesdays/Thursdays for a small number of K-3 students next year. The workshops will feature fun curriculum entirely in Spanish. It will cost $200 for a 6-week session. They are still working out all the scheduling details, but you can contact Cloe at 215-232-3222 to learn more or to reserve your space. See their flyer here.
Engineering and STEM Summer Camp for Girls – August 7-18, 2017
Presented by Philadelphia University, the Navy, and the Girl Scouts of Eastern PA.
This camp is for girls entering grades 7-9 and will take place at Philadelphia University from August 7-18 from 9 am-3 pm each day.
- Develop leadership skills • Work with college professors • Learn about careers in STEM, power, energy, robotics, national security, and defense • Experience a real laboratory and interact with scientists • Experience STEM-related industries in action • Improve communication and collaboration skills • Visit a Naval ship at the Camden and Philadelphia Navy yards • Go swimming at Shelly Ridge Camp, GSEP’s headquarters in Montgomery County.

Understanding the Immigrant Experience through Film – On Friday, June 9th The School District of Philadelphia will host a film screening of I Learn America, which will be held in the District auditorium at 440 N. Broad St. Starting at 4:30pm, the director of I Learn America along with two of the students featured in the film, will speak to audience members about themes depicted in the film. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm and end at 7:30pm. Come to meet the director and featured students, watch the film, enjoy snacks, and participate in great conversation! Please join us to engage in a dialogue on immigrant experiences both locally and globally, and to enhance collaborative efforts to support immigrant students in The School District of Philadelphia.
