Tr. Hope’s 3rd graders enjoyed “uncovering the past” at the Penn Museum last month!
Help build a Spanish library
Teacher Hope’s class and their kindergarten buddies have been working with HIAS-PA‘s refugee support program to write welcome cards for refugee children. They are also collecting Spanish books for KidsPeace, a local youth shelter run by the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement.
A teacher at KidsPeace has started a library for the children at the shelter. Many of the children have been detained at KidsPeace for months, and they need good books to read. If anyone has Spanish language kids’ or teens’ books that they no longer need, Tr. Hope’s class is collecting them to help stock the library! You can bring them to the front office in the new year labeled “Tr. Hope Book Drive”.
Our 5th graders celebrated the end of their trimester of Dancing Classrooms with a culminating event for families earlier this month. Representatives from ICS then danced at the citywide Colors of the Rainbow competition!
Adequate sleep is critical for a child’s health and learning. Temple is conducting a sleep study and looking for participants. Find out if your child qualifies!
Have you checked out SpanishDict for your at-home Spanish support needs yet? It’s a high quality translator, and you can also search verb conjugations and grammar topics of interest. And there’s an app!
Long breaks are a GREAT time to make sure the whole family is lice-free. Use these tips on how to check for lice!
With holiday breaks on the horizon, remember that Foodfinder.us is a nonprofit website and app (for iOS or Android) that offers the location and contact information of more than 40,000 food pantries and similar food programs across the country.
We love this Free Library cooking class for adult English learners! Practice English vocabulary and grammar while cooking delicious meals.
The Library also offers free Literacy Labs for 1st-3rd grade students on Saturdays at select branches. Learn more here!
Our 2nd grade families enjoyed a winter breakfast celebration this week–the food was yummy and the smiles were many!
