This recent newsletter from Senator Farnese’s office offers many helpful COVID-19 community resources for PA and Philadelphia citizens in one place. You can also continue to check http://www.phila.gov/COVID-19 for the latest updates from the city. Text COVIDPHL to 888-777 to receive updates to your phone.
Free meals for children are available daily at these locations.
Family Technology Needs
If you have not taken our very short Family Technology Survey, please complete it now. We must hear from all ICS families so that we can plan to meet family technology needs at home.
Learning Opportunities and Resources for Students
Thus far, the state of PA has given schools very little guidance on how to proceed during this mandated closure. We know that schools will not be penalized for the closure, but we do not yet know how it will impact our 2019-20 calendar. We also do not know whether the PSSAs will be administered this year. We will share new information with families as we receive it.
For now, the recommended approach to ensure equity is to provide optional learning resources and suggested activities to keep skills fresh. These can also help children maintain a connection with their teachers and classmates and thus a sense of “normalcy.”
ICS teachers will proceed in their communications with families and students with these guidelines in mind. We understand that some parents would prefer that the school hold their children accountable with due dates and grading, but right now we are bound by state and federal law to make all activities optional.
On Monday, ICS staff mailed home all paper packets that had been prepared for students but were not sent home last Friday. Families should expect to receive those packets by the end of this week. The packets are another optional resource that you can use at home to keep your children engaged as needed. If at any point your family would like more paper resources, please email Tr. Michelle Coats at michellec@icscharter.com. We will do what we can to help you.

Report Cards
Report card conference day is canceled. Report cards will be emailed home to all families and posted to the Alma parent and student portals this Friday afternoon.
If you have questions or concerns after viewing your child’s report card, please contact your teacher.
Please know that all of us at ICS are sending all of you our love and well wishes during this very difficult, very stressful time. As much as possible, have patience with yourselves, your children, and everyone in your community, and please prioritize your family’s health and safety always.
We will continue to send you accurate and timely information whenever we are able, and our teachers will be as responsive to you and your students as they can. However, remember that just like you, many of them are also navigating difficult family situations and thus might not be able to be consistent in their communication.
As a community, we will all try hard, keep doing the next right thing, and get through this together!

Necesidades Tecnológicas Familiares.
Si no ha respondido a nuestra breve encuesta sobre tecnología familiar, complétala ahora. Debemos escuchar a todas las familias de ICS para poder planificar y satisfacer las necesidades de tecnología familiar en el hogar.
Oportunidades de aprendizaje y recursos para estudiantes.
Hasta ahora, el estado de Pensilvania ha brindado a las escuelas muy poca orientación sobre cómo proceder durante este cierre obligatorio. Sabemos que las escuelas no serán penalizadas por el cierre, pero aún no sabemos cómo afectará nuestro calendario 2019-20. Tampoco sabemos si los PSSA se administrarán este año. Compartiremos nueva información con las familias a medida que la recibamos.
Por ahora, el enfoque recomendado para garantizar la equidad es proporcionar recursos de aprendizaje opcionales y actividades sugeridas para mantener las habilidades frescas. Esto también puede ayudar a los niños a mantener una conexión con sus maestros y compañeros de clase y, por lo tanto, una sensación de “normalidad”.
Los maestros de ICS continuarán con sus comunicaciones con las familias y los estudiantes con estas pautas en mente. Entendemos que algunos padres preferirían que la escuela responsabilice a sus hijos con las fechas de vencimiento y la calificación, pero en este momento estamos obligados por la ley estatal y federal a hacer que todas las actividades sean opcionales.
El lunes, el personal de ICS envió a casa todos los paquetes de papel que habían sido preparados para los estudiantes pero que no fueron enviados a casa el viernes pasado. Las familias deben esperar recibir estos paquetes para finales de esta semana. Los paquetes son otro recurso opcional que puede usar en casa para mantener a sus hijos interesados según sea necesario. Entrega de Boletas de Calificaciones
El día de la entrega de boletas de calificaciones se cancela. Las boletas de calificaciones se enviarán por correo electrónico a todas las familias y se publicarán en los portales de padres y estudiantes de Alma este viernes por la tarde.
Si usted tiene alguna duda o preocupación después de revisar la boleta de calificaciones de su hijo(a) no dude en contactar al maestro(a).
Tenga en cuenta que todos nosotros en ICS les enviamos nuestro amor y buenos deseos durante este momento tan difícil y estresante. En la medida de lo posible, tengan paciencia con ustedes mismos, sus hijos y todos los miembros de su comunidad, y recuerden que la salud y la seguridad de su familia es una prioridad.
