Dear Families,
I hope this email finds you healthy and safe. Our highest priority is to ensure the wellness of every ICS family (emotionally as well as physically) and I ask that you please reach out to any ICS staff member if you need support of any kind.
As you know, ICS will be closed through the remainder of the 2019/2020 school year. This saddens us greatly as there is no replacement for the personalized learning that takes place every day in ICS classrooms. However, we are lucky to have a school full of smart, committed, and skillful teachers and are making every effort to ensure that students will acquire the most essential skills needed to progress in their education.
Next week (April 20th), assignments and learning activities will move from optional to required and will be graded. New content will be introduced. It is important that your child participate in the distance learning activities assigned by your child’s teacher so that they can continue to learn and enhance their skills. Regular participation and completion of coursework is required to receive grades and class credit, just as it would be if schools were open.
With that in mind, we are committed to doing as much as we are able to support families in this endeavor. The bulk of teaching and learning will take place in a learning environment that does not require participants, teachers, and students to be online at the same time. The hope is that this will allow students and families to schedule their learning at times that make sense for each individual family.
For academic learning to effectively occur students need to be emotionally and socially ready to engage. Therefore, teachers will also provide opportunities for students to interact and connect with their teachers and classmates in real time via video-conferencing and through other on-line tools.
We are using Zoom as the school’s video conferencing platform in conjunction with Clever. Through Clever, we can ensure that all Zoom meetings will protect your child’s privacy. Your child should be able to join a Zoom meeting from within their Clever portal page. Click here for English and here for Spanish for directions about how to log onto Clever.
We recognize that the use of a video conferencing platform for distance learning is a potential intrusion of your child and your family’s privacy. Your child is not required to participate with the video turned on. If your child or you are uncomfortable with your child participating with the video on, you can turn it off. The decision is yours, not the teacher or school. Also your child does not need to sign up for a Zoom account. A Zoom account is not required for participation. The school is not creating, managing, or supporting student Zoom accounts.

If you are experiencing challenges with having your child participate in their teacher’s learning plan, please contact your child’s teachers for support. We will make every effort to alleviate those challenges and/or alter expectations for work completion.
ICS teachers and instructional leaders will continue to monitor and improve our learning plan and the student and family experience during the time of its implementation.

Espero que este correo electrónico los encuentre saludables y seguros. Nuestra máxima prioridad es garantizar el bienestar de cada familia de ICS (tanto emocional como físicamente) y les pido que se comuniquen con cualquier miembro del personal de ICS si necesitan ayuda de cualquier tipo.
Como saben, ICS permanecerá cerrado durante el resto del año escolar 2019/2020. La esperanza es que esto permita a los estudiantes y las familias programar su aprendizaje en momentos que tengan sentido para cada familia individual.
Para que el aprendizaje académico ocurra de manera efectiva, los estudiantes deben estar preparados emocional y socialmente para participar. Si tiene dificultades para que su hijo participe en el plan de aprendizaje de su maestro, comuníquese con los maestros de su hijo para obtener ayuda. Haremos todo lo posible para aliviar esos desafíos y / o alterar las expectativas para completar el trabajo.
