Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers:

October is National Bullying Prevention Month!

As you know, we are teaching the Second Step program in your child’s classroom on a weekly basis. To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we are also using the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. In the lessons, your child will be learning specific skills to help stop bullying. Students will learn how to:
•    Recognize when bullying is happening
•    Report bullying to a caring adult
•    Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others
•    Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying

We are excited to share with you that our school community will be celebrating Unity Day on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Please have your students wear something orange in support of this special day!

Unity Day is an annual event occurring during National Bullying Prevention Month in October. It promotes joining together to create healthier communities through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. It was started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in 2011 and is now celebrated around the world.

We hope you’ll take this opportunity to talk to your children about bullying prevention and all the positive things we can do to make healthier communities. For more information on the history of Unity Day and its impact, please go to https://www.PACER.org/bullying/about/history.asp.

Sincerely,

Counselors Lauren, Whitney, and Anne
