Dear ICS Families,

Homelessness Awareness Week is an annual event that we hold in Pennsylvania in conjunction with the National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Campaign. This is a great opportunity for us, as thoughtful global citizens, to get involved. Your child’s teacher will be leading an age appropriate lesson on housing instability and homelessness in class next week.

We are leading a nonperishable food & toiletries drive to show solidarity and support for students experiencing homelessness. The drive will take place during Homelessness Awareness Week (next week!), with the culminating Red Shirt Day on Wednesday, November 16th.

Here is how your family can help:

1) Donate one or more items from the lists below. There will be a drop off box in front of the cafeteria for students during the week of November 14. All items collected will be donated to Families Forward Philadelphia.

2) Stand in solidarity and support students experiencing homelessness by participating in Red Shirt Day on Wednesday, November 16. Students are able to dress down as long as they are wearing a red shirt!

Non-perishable Food:
pasta, pasta sauces, peanut butter, jelly, canned food, rice, soups, cereal, crackers, macaroni and cheese, tuna fish, pancake mix, syrup, etc

Personal Care Items (all travel size):
bar soap, body wash, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes

Infant Items:
bottles, diapers, lotion, wipes

Thank you for your support,
Counselors Anne, Lauren and Whitney
