November 2017

Dear ICS Families,

If you spend a lot of time following the news, it’s easy to be anxious these days. One of the words I hear a lot is “polarized”. Americans are polarized on the right and the left, the world is polarized, the city’s neighborhoods are polarized. To me, it’s a word that means people are choosing not to understand each other.

Independence Charter School is an antidote to polarization. What makes us special is our dedication to the ideals of Global Citizenship. Those ideals have never been more relevant or urgent. It’s more than learning a language–though that is very important. It’s going to school with kids and families from every neighborhood in the city, from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds and financial resources, and learning to appreciate what everyone in the community has to offer.

Supporting ICS is not just supporting a great school, it’s supporting a positive force in the city that reduces polarization and teaches students to be connectors and healers in a challenging world. As 2017 comes to a close, a gift from you will help us go “above and beyond” in fulfilling our mission. Here are some examples of what your gift can do:

● A gift of $2,000 is enough to send a student on the Take Flight program

● $500 could upgrade one classroom’s technology

● $300 can buy a computer for a student to use in school

● $150 is enough to cover one student’s participation in a sports team

● $25 would pay for a student to go on a field trip

ICS builds Global Citizens–kids who are compassionate, curious, critical thinkers. The world needs a lot more of them. Your gift will ensure our continued success and growth.

Sincerely,
CEO Tom
